| Kenya, ADPK Mombasa Association for Physically Disabled (APDK) Rehabilitation Hospital, Mombasa, Kenya
CMaD has enjoyed a long relationship with this hospital, funding many operations for disabled children over many years. This was acknowledged during CMaD’s visit in 2007, with the cutting of a celebratory cake while the children sang.
APDK, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2008, provides practical help and support throughout Kenya for people with disabilities. Typical operations at Mombasa are for the correction of club foot and the fitting of orthotics to help correct other conditions.
The children who undergo these painful operations often have to stay at the hospital for many months, usually many miles away from their families and friends. So CMaD's 2008 funding of £8,000 was to refurbish and cheer up the children’s wards and the hospital environment generally. An additional individual donation went to replacing the pump that provides water to the hospital.

In 2009 CMaD provided £13,000 to fund the purchase of a 4WD vehicle for the hospital’s mobile clinics, and two motorbikes to be used for their community education and outreach service. These are now in service. Each has CMaD’s name and logo on them, to acknowledge CMaD's support and support our church witness in the area. They have already been seen around Mombasa - Zakayo Mutunga (Mombasa church) reported ‘It was good to hear about the support extended to APDK. The logo on the vehicle will be a good witness to us. Already a church member has seen the vehicle on the streets, and he was excited to identify with it’. |
