| Cameroon, Tole clinic
The maternity clinic in Tole village provides pre and postnatal support to women in the area, as well as assistance at childbirth and with the healthcare of young children.
Women and children are provided with practical health care advice and with medicines where required. Chest conditions are a constant issue here, due to the humidity in the region. External and internal parasites are a regular complaint, with potentially fatal consequences if left untreated. The effect of malaria is also a constant issue with many.
The clinic is managed by a qualified midwife and is supported by two doctors from a local hospital.
Recent CMaD funding
Recent funding has allowed for updating of the rented building to ensure the surfaces can be kept clean and hygienic. Small improvements, such as providing a fridge, has enabled the clinic to keep medicines and hold various vaccines available. An increase in beds has enabled more women to stay longer in the clinic.
Medicines and vitamins are now purchased locally, ensuring that new mothers are well treated. Educational literature, on subjects like healthy eating, birth control, HIV and hygiene is provided, to further benefit the mothers.
The clinic is self-funding with services and medicines charged at a realistic cost to those who use it.
