| DR Congo, FSH Bukavu FSH Bukavu – DR Congo

FSH Bukavu began as a feeding and vocational training programme for street children, however it’s work has now extended due to CMAD’s ongoing support. Many children in DR Congo have to steal to keep alive and therefore end up being arrested and many sent to prison. FSH is working with authorities to help rehabilitate these children( education, accommodation) rather than them being sent to jail.

Many young girls also end up in prostitution to get some money for themselves and families to live. FSH are finding these girls and giving them a chance in life by training and support. They are also working with women who been sexually abused mainly as a result of the military conflict.
As well as all of this FSH also have a centre running courses in sewing, carpentry, car mechanics, carpet making and crafts.

To quote a recent visitor to the area:
“DR Congo is a really terrible country to be living in. The Eastern region which is where Bukavu is, is terrorised by armed militia who roam the mountains and jungle attacking, plundering and raping the local population. FSH takes in young men who have been child soldiers’ girls who have sold their bodies and attempts to educate them for reintegration in society.” |
