FSH Bukavu is a feeding and vocational training programme for street children. CMaD has helped to fund this venture for over 10 years, always paying the rent on the building and contributing to the work of the project and the food. The CBM Linkman visits when he is able and helps monitor this project for us. Here is his latest report :
“During my visit to Bukavu I went over to view the FSH projects, which MaD has continued to support over the last ten years. Some very good work is being done. Young men are taken in off the street and taught woodwork or vehicle repair and maintenance. Young girls are removed from the trap of prostitution and taught needlework, and cooking. All receive instruction in literacy. Income is produced from the repair of wrecked vehicles, which are bought in damaged and resold after repair as usable vehicles, from the sale of cloths, scarves and woven baskets produced by the needlework classes. FSH has a café called "Miss Malaika" where cookery is taught and drinks and meals are sold to the public. This café is not funded by CMaD and the rental on that property has to be covered by the café sales.
The other projects - woodwork, needlework, vehicle repair, literacy - all take place on the site for which the rental is paid by CMaD”
We funded this project again in June 2009.
